PEKOE, or "Orange Pekoe" as it's commonly penned, denotes a unique black tea leaf grade. Distinct not for its flavor, but for leaf size and quality, this classification permeates the tea cultures of Sri Lanka, India, and other tea-producing nations.

Tracing its roots to the Chinese term "bai hao" (white tip), "Pekoe" pays homage to the delicate white hairs adorning young tea leaves. The Orange Pekoe grade? Comprised of unbroken, whole leaves—generally larger than their counterparts. Curiously, "Orange" alludes not to the citrus fruit or taste, but to the influential Dutch House of Orange-Nassau, entwined in Europe's tea trade history.

In essence, PEKOE black tea signifies a superior grade, distinguished by large, intact leaves. It isn't a flavor marker; it's a testament to the leaves' quality.
